Does Noom Work? Real Results From Noom, Weight Watchers, Slimming World, and Calorie Counting

6 min read · RealCase

"Does Noom work?" and "do Weight Watchers results last?" are fair questions to ask before paying for a program. The eight stories below don't settle it for everyone, but they show what real people got out of each approach — including one who regained a little, and several who used a free tool instead of a paid one.

Noom results

Sherry started Noom in January 2021 hoping to lose 25 pounds and doubting it would work. Using the daily lessons, a roughly 1,200-calorie food log, and daily weigh-ins, she lost 35 pounds by May. Two years later she had regained only about four pounds.

Weight Watchers success stories and before-and-after results

Beth Klein's weight peaked at 250 pounds in her freshman year of college. She joined Weight Watchers in 2009 for the structure of counting and measuring, and got down to around 170. Cara R. rejoined for the third time after gaining 68 pounds during her second pregnancy; combining the program with meal prep, group support, and running, she lost 121 pounds between 2019 and 2024 and ran a half marathon.

Slimming World success stories

Both Slimming World stories came down to replacing takeaways with home cooking. Alice Day learned to cook "fakeaway" versions of her favourite meals and lost more than 10 stone (about 140 pounds) in about a year. John MacDonald swapped fried breakfasts and takeaway dinners for Weetabix, yogurt, fruit, and home-cooked meals, losing about 236 pounds before turning 30 — and kept it off for more than two years since.

Jenny Craig results and structured meal programs

Susan Niebergall used Jenny Craig's pre-packaged meals and counseling to lose about 50 pounds, then kept the habits with strength training and more protein — and went on to coach others. In Australia, Mel Arndt followed a portion-controlled meal plan five days a week with 10 minutes of daily home workouts and lost about 20 pounds in eight weeks.

Calorie counting weight loss results (free)

You don't need a paid program to track food. Christy Caby used the free site SparkPeople from 2010, added walking, hiking, and running before her family woke up, and lost 95 pounds over about two years. Free apps like MyFitnessPal work on the same principle: logging what you eat.

So, does Noom work — or Weight Watchers, or Slimming World? In these stories, the program mattered less than the habits it built: logging food, cooking at home, and sticking with it for months. These are individual results, not medical advice.
